Navires:
During the summer of 2004, I was an artist in residence at AIR Vallauris, in the south of France. There I purposefully opened myself up to new experiences. Having only the short time of one month and being in a new studio with unfamiliar clay, glazes and kilns, I decided to use this opportunity to be more expressive with my work. I chose not to invest a great deal of time in each piece but rather to make many pieces, exploring building techniques and focusing more than I usually do on the slip decoration on the surface. I continue to explore this direction, using coil building techniques with earthenware clay. I use slip trailing, mishima and scrafitto techniques to decorate and a clear glaze at cone 04 to finish the work.
